I came across the April GPGA Contest, and decided to set up and shoot this tube of yellow goauche specifically for the contest (the theme is yellow).
Anyway, I wanted to do somethin' different instead of just a still life photo of paint. So, I made two layers (one in color and one desaturated). I then quick masked the b&w layer so that the yellow paint of the colored layer would show through. Once I got it how I wanted, I merged the layers then did some dodging and burning. I duplicated the single layer, added a lens blur to the top layer, then erased with a huge, soft brush over the yellow paint to keep it sharper than the rest of the image. Before merging the two layers, I changed the blend mode of the blurred layer to Multiply and lowered the opacity just a tad. Once that was done I removed any little spots, etc. that I didn't want in the image, and this is the result!  P.S. Here's the original photo (right off the camera). Enjoy!  |
